UKAS AWARDS FIRST ACCREDITATION FOR ISAS

The Cobalt Unit Appeal Fund (Cheltenham Imaging Centre) has become the first imaging service to be accredited to the ISAS Standard by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

The ISAS standard was jointly developed by The College of Radiographers (CoR) and The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) to accredit organisations delivering patient-focused imaging services to their community using competent staff and in a safe environment.

To achieve accredited status Cobalt volunteered to be independently scrutinised by a team of peers and lay representatives trained by UKAS.  During this process they were able to demonstrate conformity to the rigorous standards set by the CoR and RCR.

Lord Jamie Lindsay, UKAS Chairman, said: "UKAS is delighted to announce that Cobalt’s is the first UK imaging service to be granted this internationally recognised accreditation.  By participating in accreditation Cobalt has not only shown its willingness to be open and transparent but also that it is constantly working to develop and improve both clinical and patient-related outcomes."

To mark Cobalt’s success, a presentation ceremony will take place on 20th December at organisation’s home base in Cheltenham.  Lord Lindsay will present Peter Sharpe, Cobalt’s Chief Executive, with their ISAS certificate.  Guests will include principal attendees from CoR, RCR, UKAS, the wider healthcare sector, and dignitaries from Cobalt’s local community.
